Main Point/Theme: The false accusation of Jesus.
Bible Text: Luke 22:66-71
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”
71 Then they said, “Why do we need any more testimony? We have heard it from his own lips.”

1 - Expository preaching through the passage:
66 At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both the chief priests and the teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them. 67 “If you are the Messiah,” they said, “tell us.”
Jesus answered, “If I tell you, you will not believe me, 68 and if I asked you, you would not answer. 69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
Here we are seeing is the example of the falseness that Jesus has been talking about all along. No matter what Jesus would say, he knew they would spin it for their own desires, and this is exactly what they are doing, and Jesus speaks to this by saying. You see for this to stick and take place, it needs to be a justify-able trial against Jesus. They were going through the motions to put forth the correct protocol to hide the fact they are doing this illegally.
Jesus breaks this down for them. He says, If I tell you, you will not believe me. Jesus is showing them their disbelief in who He is directly to them and responding to them asking is He was the Messiah.
Secondly, Jesus says, if I asked you, you would not answer.
And the reason Jesus is saying this is because he knows they would not answer this question because they are trying to get Jesus to admit it out of his own mouth therefore to falsely convict himself. So, Jesus is telling them that one you’re not going to believe me if I say it into if I ask you, you wouldn’t answer because you’re trying to get me to say it.
And then Jesus goes on to say in verse 69
69 But from now on, the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the mighty God.”
You see Jesus knows where He is heading and there is no reason to fight it. Jesus already prayed to God the Father, asked for this burden to be taken from Him, acknowledged that it wasn't and accepted this, and now has moved into the position of being ready to die for your sins. This is what Jesus is saying in this verse. Now to continue on
70 They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?”
He replied, “You say that I am.”
Add this moment the authorities took the opportunity to complete the false accusation. By Jesus saying this response he is not actually denying it because why would he deny the fact that he is who he says he is but he’s also not going to let himself become falsely accused by their merit. So instead, he lets it fall on them. And what do they do they take advantage of this they take advantage of that moment and sees the opportunity to make this accusation of Jesus and run with it.
But you see what’s happening here is Biden condemning Jesus in this moment they are condemning themselves through their own actions. If we go back to 1 Corinthians 2:8 it shows us exactly what is happening for Jesus says that
8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory.
And if they knew what they were saying and they believed that Jesus was who he said he was then never would have condemned but now when the time comes when Jesus well rightly judge all of us those who ignored his miracles and ignored who Jesus Christ was through his teaching will be condemned to an eternity in hell.
Over these months we have been talking about the life of Jesus Christ so you would know and understand who Jesus is in your life. So, you would begin to understand and know the type of person you are believing in. Because until you know and understand who Jesus is, it is hard to understand and follow what you do not know. So, we’ve taken these months to really begin to understand who Jesus is. We have heard of his miracles, we have seen how he teaches people, we have seen how he treats people, we have seen how Jesus carries himself through all aspects of life with the purpose of showing you how to live your life.
I don’t know how to keep saying that you guys, Jesus loves you so much that he is willing to be falsely accused and sentenced to death by crucifixion on the cross to give you the choice to follow him. He said he loves you so much that he’s not even forcing you to follow him because he wants that love from you to be pure. Oh Jesus wants a relationship with you and if you want to accept him into your heart you just need to acknowledge him, you just need to accept who Jesus Christ is and believe that he was telling the truth. You see the only way these men were able to put Jesus on the cross was to bring false accusations to them, they pretty much have a fake trial just to make the right steps forward and then change his words around to make him sound guilty. And he let this happen for your benefit, not his own.
