Product of a Promise
In 2011 I had pleaded with the Lord to make as David… I had come to learn David had moments in which he was not the squeaky clean person I had known him to be.
David married multiple women, committed adultery, lied to the priests, commits murder, does a terrible job raising his kids, there were so many reasons for God to not choose David.
He did have one thing going for him and we can argue it is the most important thing one can have.
Even in the midst of his mess he is known as a man after God’s own heart.
While there were things he did that I did not do, I thought if God names him in such a way He could do the same for me.
This is a prayer that was prayed in the quiet secret place, when it was spoken over me the pastor didnt know me and simply spoke the word the Lord gave to him.
To be known as a person after God’s own heart You must completely surrender to God
To be known as a person after God’s own heart You must completely surrender to God
And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, of whom he testified and said, ‘I have found in David the son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

Selected and Qualified by the Lord
But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
Samuel looked the outward appearance of David’s brothers
Rebuked and told to look at the heart
When he anoints David it would be another 8 years before he would become king.
The Road would be marked with many mistakes but he remained surrendered to God.
Examining David’s Prayer
Examining David’s Prayer
Trust in the Lord over the Self
Trust in the Lord over the Self
We know he rejects Saul’s Armor… Lives into His Calling
Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me.
Trusts the Lord is the only one who can save him from himself
Knows the futility of his own desires and will
Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgment.
His sin hurt others but none greater than God
Desires forgiveness not for himself but that God would be glorified
Acknowledge the Condition
Acknowledge the Condition
Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.
Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
The human condition is to live in the identities we are given
Self deprication
Wants to be instructed by the Lord
David knows The only one who can free him from the internal self is the Lord
Purge me with Hyssop
Confess in the Work of the Lord
Confess in the Work of the Lord
Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have broken rejoice.
Hide your face from my sins, and blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.
Understands the self inflicted wound and the work of the Lord to correct him… chooses not to hide
Understanding his nature asks the Lord to take away his desire to act against Him
Wrestles with the Lord and contends for not just forgiveness to be renewed
Contends to stay in His Presence
Salvation comes from the Lord
Willing Spirit
The Will of God Over His Own
The Will of God Over His Own
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will return to you.
He longs for the work of God
Uses his life as a living testimony
Complete surrender is what we see in Psalm 51:17 a humble spirit, broken heart for the things that have broken His heart, a full acknowledgement that without God no amount of people who like us will satisfy.
God’s desire is that we acknowledge and fully depend on Him. To fully accept and step into the calling He has for us in His will and to progress His will over our own…
