B. Timothy’s Need
1. Grace
Charis.
This is the unmerited favor of God.
It is by God’s grace that we are saved and it is by God’s grace that we stand and have standing in the presence of God.
Grace takes away our sin and gives us righteousness in its place.
2. Mercy
Describes compassion for people who are in difficult circumstances with a desire to help them out of the difficulty they are in.
If grace takes away sin, Mercy takes away the misery that sin has created in our lives.
Paul’s usual greeting was Grace and Peace, but mercy is added probably because Timothy was having trouble with false teachers and all kinds of heresies in present church assignment.

Freedom from conflict with God, with other people and within our own heart.

God the Father is the source of grace, mercy, and peace in the believer’s life.
Like an earthly father who wants the best for his children and to give them every advantage in life, so is our Heavenly Father.
He continually pours out His grace.
