Jesus talking to His disciples

The Sermon on the Mount 1
We are just beginning a new series on the Sermon on the Mount
We are in the book of Mathew 5-7
This is a priceless sermon,
It is one of Jesus five discourses in the book of Mathew
5 Discourses of Matthew
1. Sermon on the Mount – Matt. 5-7 Narrative
2. Instructions to the Disciples – Matt. 10:1-11:1 Narrative
3. Parables – Matt. 13:1-53 Narrative
4. Discourse about Children, Forgiveness, Church Discipline Matt. 18:1-19:1 Narrative
5. Olivet Discourse (End Times) Matt. 24:1-26:1 Narrative
The book of Mathew was written around late 60s AD, and early 70s AD
All the scholars agree the book of Mathew it was written by the Apostle Mathew
Formerly he was a tax collector named Levi. We are not sure if Jesus gave him the name Mathew but would make sense because Mathew means Gift. Some say the gift of God.
Matthew’s writings were to a Jewish audience,
Luke to gentiles
Mark to a Roman audience immediately
John was written to everyone
Matt is about Jesus fulfilling all the promises
The Gospels were written to explain the old testament
What’s Contained In The Old Is Explained In The New By Jack Kelley
Mathew emphasizes what Jesus thought Mark what Jesus did Luke what he felt John who Jesus was
The focus of the Sermon on the Mount was how to live a life pleasing to God and the characteristics of Christian discipleship. Just to obey the law was not enough.
Let’s pray
The best-known sermon Jesus ever preached
The sermon on the mountain, is not a path to salvation, world peace or a beautiful teachings about relationships and nature.
Is about the kingdom of God The sermon was not for the multitudes it was for the disciples, is not intended to be a social gospel.
Mat 5:1 Jesus saw the crowds. So he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him.
Mat 5:2 Then he began to teach them. He said,
If you are wondering about the crowd
Mat 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.
Mat 4:24 News about him spread all over Syria, and people brought to him all who were ill with various diseases, those suffering severe pain, the demon-possessed, those having seizures, and the paralyzed; and he healed them.
Mat 4:25 Large crowds from Galilee, the Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea and the region across the Jordan followed him.
This sermon was for followers of Jesus, people who are not Christians, people who does not have a relationship with Jesus will not understand this message. They will try to change it and water it down.
God wants to give us His understanding over these topics, Jesus is the one who came from heaven, and has the correct understanding from God, and the right doctrine, we need Jesus the Holy Spirit, to help us to understand the scriptures, and what he is saying.
If your understanding or view of the old testament is different then Jesus, repent and align your thinking with His thinking.
If we look at the old and new testaments all 66 books are about one person and 2 events, Jesus, his first and second coming,.
We don’t need a teacher
1Jn 2:27 As for you, the anointing [the special gift, the preparation] which you received from Him remains [permanently] in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But just as His anointing teaches you [giving you insight through the presence of the Holy Spirit] about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as His anointing has taught you, you must remain in Him [being rooted in Him, knit to Him].
Mathew 5 the beatitudes, who we are • MATTHEW 6: Our Relationship with God • MATTHEW 7: Our Relationship with Man`````
As Christians we a have a call from God to be disciples of Jesus Christ
The standard definition of “disciple” (noun) is someone who follows to the teachings of another. It is a follower or a learner. It refers to someone who takes up the ways of someone else. Applied to Jesus, a disciple is someone who learns from him to live like him — someone who, because of God’s awakening grace, conforms his or her words and ways to the words and ways of Jesus.
Currently is not a common thing for us to follow anyone.
The idea of following someone is look down, we praise and encourage leadership but we give very little or no support to follow anyone.
To be a follower is to have no brain’s, is to be unsuccessful, is to lack creativity.
What we praise today, is the rebel, the one who knows better than everyone else, the one who resist leadership, government authority and are disobedient.
Throughout the Bible we see the examples of many different disciples, man and women who committed their whole lives to someone else, just to learn what God had invested in that person, from leadership, teachings and actions.
Joshua with Moses, Ruth and Naomi, Elijah and Elisha , Jesus and the 12 disciples and the disciples and their disciples.
We have a call here at Mokuaikaua, to be disciples of Jesus Christ and to make disciples. We need to ask our Heavenly Father to rekindle our hearts, our passion to make disciples. For us to be able to grow in the Lord in our personal lives, we need to make disciples, help them to grow, God will be faithful in giving back to us .
Mat 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Mat 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

1 All authority has been given to Jesus in Heaven and on earth.

Jesus has all authority in heaven and on earth, He was making a very important statement to His disciples. There is no place in the universe where He is not invited or able of doing whatever He wishes , all authority has being given to Him. He has all authority, satan has no authority, he was defeated at the cross.
When Jesus calls us to pray for someone, He has the authority and power to do whatever He wishes, regardless of how difficult it seems .
Some years ago I was in a prayer and worship meeting with Dr Don Tredway, a member of Mokuaikaua, as the meeting went on a young lady fell on the ground and by all the looks of it she was dead, she had no pulse, she was not breathing or responding to anything, but Don was discerning enough, he saw that was a spirit of death over this young lady, so he rebuke the evil spirit, she came back to life and everything was normal again.
Jesus has All authority, and He will empower us as we need it.

2 Go and Make disciples of all the nations

Jesus did not ask the angels or any other Heavenly beings to do that, he left the great commission with you and me. We are the ones that He call to evangelized the world, not only our friends or our neighbors, the world not only to pray that pastor can do his job well, we are the ones entrusted by Jesus with the great commission.

3 Teaching them to observe all things that I have commend

We need to teach our disciples, people whom God will lead to us, teach all that He has commanded us to do. Not only by sharing with them but by demonstrating with our lives.

4 I am with you always.

And final but not least the great certainty that the presence of God will be with us always.
He promised is truth, sometimes I talk to people who tell me they don’t feel like God is around them or present.
Jer 29:13 You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.

Jesus wants to speak His disciples,

Mat 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Mat 28:19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
Mat 28:20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
To become a Disciple we need to make Jesus the Lord of our lives
"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
Joh 3:16
To receive Jesus, we need to accept Him as God’s son, repent from our sins and a life of selfishness, and ask Him to be your Lord and savior, not that you deserve it, but is a gift from God.
If this is your desire today, please repeat this prayer after me?
Heavenly Father I’m sinner,
I’m sorry for my sins,
I’m willing to turn away from my sins.
I receive Christ as my savior,
I confess him as Lord
from this moment on I want to follow and serve him,
in the fellowship of his church,
In Jesus name. Amen!
1Co 11:23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread;
1Co 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:25 In the same manner Healso took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me."
1Co 11:26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes.
1Co 11:27 Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
Heb 9:14 dead works, acts, sins
E mau aku ka loko maika’i o ka Haku, Iesu Kristo; me ke aloha a ke Akua, a me ka launa pu ‘ana mai o ka Uhane Hemolele ia ‘olua, a me makou apau. Amene.
