The Old Testament is full of foreshadowing about Jesus being sent to be the ultimate sacrafice and the provider of our salvation. We need to grasp how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament and with that understanding our faith in Jesus will be strengthened.

Our CrossFit series begins out of an experience Pastor had while in Jerusalem regarding Atonement. Two goats were used on Day of Atonement, one for the forgiveness of sin, the other for the freedom from sin. The "scapegoat" had to be taken away by a selected "fit man" who'd be responsible to ensure the sins of the nation be carried far away and not to come back. Annually the Lord sought a "fit man" for His work. We know this was a foreshadow of Christ. The Lord is still looking for "fit men and women" especially in the year 2020.

In our passage we see both the power of scapegoating (seen in anger) and the power of fear. Peter and Pilate show fear's power, while the Beloved Disciple and Nicodemus show the power of calmness. The Jewish leaders show how fear leads to scapegoating and to irrationality. Our call to to dealing with our fears and to inner calmness and recollection out which we can hear and obey God

Goal: That hearers believe more fervently that Jesus Christ took all our sins upon himself and paid for them with his own life.

There is no doubt that God is the Judge and will judge all humanity. The blessing is realizing the judge is also the justifier and has made a way for the condemned to be redeemed through an Advocate, Jesus Christ the Righteous.

It says Moses pitched the tabernacle without the camp after the judgment over worship of the golden camp. Those who wanted to meet the LORD had to do so outside the camp.

Jesus is the True and Greater Moses who delivers God's people once for all from all their sins.
