Never Changing Promises of God

Notes

Handout

And at that time Hanani the *seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him: “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on the LORD your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped from your hand.

8 “Were the Ethiopians and the Lubim not a huge army with very many chariots and horsemen? Yet, because you relied on the LORD, He delivered them into your hand.

9 “For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him. In this you have done foolishly; therefore from now on you shall have wars.”

10 Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in prison, for he was enraged at him because of this. And Asa oppressed some of the people at that time.

Look for promises in Scripture that rest in the Never changing character of God, and therefore are true for his people through all history.
Observation:
1. Asa king of Judah relied on the king of Syria, and not in God. v.7
2. Therefore,Judah lost the battle with Syria. v.7
3. And because of their lack of faith, from now on, Judah will suffer wars. v.9
4. We should rely on God, and not on man, because God is searching for opportunities to help those whose hearts are wholly trusting in Him. v.9
Application:
I. What kind of God is our God?
1. Our God is not needy; He is strong.
2. Our God is not passive or hesitant. He's aggressively pursuing us with goodness and mercy.
3. Our God is not limited; He's everywhere, and He is eager and ready to help anyone who is wholly trusting in him.
