1 Aconteció, muchos días después que Jehová diera reposo a Israel de todos sus enemigos alrededor, que Josué, siendo ya viejo y avanzado en años, 2 llamó a todo Israel, a sus ancianos, sus príncipes, sus jueces y sus oficiales, y les dijo: Yo ya soy viejo y avanzado en años. 3 Y vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho con todas estas naciones por vuestra causa; porque Jehová vuestro Dios es quien ha peleado por vosotros. 4 He aquí os he repartido por suerte, en herencia para vuestras tribus, estas naciones, así las destruidas como las que quedan, desde el Jordán hasta el Mar Grande, hacia donde se pone el sol. 5 Y Jehová vuestro Dios las echará de delante de vosotros, y las arrojará de vuestra presencia; y vosotros poseeréis sus tierras, como Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dicho. 6 Esforzaos, pues, mucho en guardar y hacer todo lo que está escrito en el libro de la ley de Moisés, sin apartaros de ello ni a diestra ni a siniestra; 7 para que no os mezcléis con estas naciones que han quedado con vosotros, ni hagáis mención ni juréis por el nombre de sus dioses, ni los sirváis, ni os inclinéis a ellos. 8 Mas a Jehová vuestro Dios seguiréis, como habéis hecho hasta hoy.
1 After a long time had passed and the Lord had given Israel rest from all their enemies around them, Joshua, by then a very old man, 2 summoned all Israel—their elders, leaders, judges and officials—and said to them: “I am very old. 3 You yourselves have seen everything the Lord your God has done to all these nations for your sake; it was the Lord your God who fought for you. 4 Remember how I have allotted as an inheritance for your tribes all the land of the nations that remain—the nations I conquered—between the Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea in the west. 5 The Lord your God himself will push them out for your sake. He will drive them out before you, and you will take possession of their land, as the Lord your God promised you.
6 “Be very strong; be careful to obey all that is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, without turning aside to the right or to the left. 7 Do not associate with these nations that remain among you; do not invoke the names of their gods or swear by them. You must not serve them or bow down to them. 8 But you are to hold fast to the Lord your God, as you have until now.
Propósito: Aprender cómo mantener una actitud victoriosa en el transcurso de nuestra vida cristiana.
Purpose: To learn how to maintain a victorious attitude throughout our Christian life.

-En capítulo 22 encontramos un interesante suceso en el cierre de este libro.
-In chapter 22 we find an interesting event at the end of this book.
-Se trata de un mal entendido entre las tribus que se quedaron al otro lado del Jordán y el resto del pueblo.
-It is about a misunderstanding between the tribes that stayed on the other side of the Jordan and the rest of the people.
-Estos habían construido un altar y la noticia llegó a Josué y a los demás príncipes, y pensaron que una parte del pueblo quería rebelarse dejando la adoración en el tabernáculo, para crear su propio sistema religioso.
-They had built an altar and the news reached Joshua and the other princes, and they thought that a part of the people wanted to rebel by leaving worship in the tabernacle, to create their own religious system.
-Una vez tratado el asunto, se dieron cuenta que el altar no era la división del culto, sino un testimonio, un monumento conmemorativo que sirviera como un legado de identidad y de adoración.
-Once the matter was dealt with, they realized that the altar was not the division of worship, but a testimony, a commemorative monument that served as a legacy of identity and worship.
24 »La verdad es que construimos este altar porque tenemos miedo de que, en el futuro, sus descendientes les digan a los nuestros: “¿Qué derecho tienen ustedes de adorar al Señor, Dios de Israel?
25 El Señor ha puesto el río Jordán como una barrera entre nuestra gente y ustedes, gente de Rubén y de Gad. Ustedes no tienen derecho de afirmar que pertenecen al Señor”. Así, los descendientes de ustedes podrían impedirles a los nuestros que adoraran al Señor.
26 »Por eso decidimos construir el altar, no para presentar ofrendas quemadas o sacrificios,
27 sino como un monumento conmemorativo. Les recordará a nuestros descendientes y a los de ustedes que nosotros también tenemos el derecho de adorar al Señor en su santuario con nuestros sacrificios, nuestras ofrendas quemadas y ofrendas de paz. Entonces sus descendientes no podrán decirles a los nuestros: “Ustedes no tienen derecho de afirmar que pertenecen al Señor”.
28 »Si ellos dicen eso, nuestros descendientes podrán responder: “Miren esta réplica del altar del Señor que construyeron nuestros antepasados. No es para sacrificios ni ofrendas quemadas, es para recordarnos la relación que ambos tenemos con el Señor”.
24 “No! We did it for fear that some day your descendants might say to ours, ‘What do you have to do with the Lord, the God of Israel?
25 The Lord has made the Jordan a boundary between us and you—you Reubenites and Gadites! You have no share in the Lord.’ So your descendants might cause ours to stop fearing the Lord.
26 “That is why we said, ‘Let us get ready and build an altar—but not for burnt offerings or sacrifices.’
27 On the contrary, it is to be a witness between us and you and the generations that follow, that we will worship the Lord at his sanctuary with our burnt offerings, sacrifices and fellowship offerings. Then in the future your descendants will not be able to say to ours, ‘You have no share in the Lord.’
28 “And we said, ‘If they ever say this to us, or to our descendants, we will answer: Look at the replica of the Lord’s altar, which our ancestors built, not for burnt offerings and sacrifices, but as a witness between us and you.’
-Tenemos la gran responsabilidad de dejar el testimonio correcto a nuestros hijos, pero no solo a ellos, sino a quienes se van integrando a la iglesia.
-We have the great responsibility of leaving the correct testimony to our children, but not only to them, but to those who are joining the church.
-Los que nos siguen, deben ver en nosotros una identidad definida y una verdadera adoración al único Dios.
-Those who follow us must see in us a defined identity and true worship of the only God.
14 prosigo hacia la meta para obtener el premio del supremo llamamiento de Dios en Cristo Jesús.
15 Así que todos los que somos perfectos, tengamos esta misma actitud; y si en algo tienen una actitud distinta, eso también se lo revelará Dios.
16 Sin embargo, continuemos viviendo según la misma norma que hemos alcanzado.
17 Hermanos, sean imitadores míos, y observen a los que andan según el ejemplo que tienen en nosotros.
14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
15 All of us, then, who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differently, that too God will make clear to you. 16 Only let us live up to what we have already attained.
17 Join together in following my example, brothers and sisters, and just as you have us as a model, keep your eyes on those who live as we do.

-En el capítulo 23 vemos como al final de sus días, Josué exhortó a Israel a mantener firme su fe y su identidad como pueblo de Dios.
-In chapter 23 we see how at the end of his days, Joshua exhorted Israel to keep firm their faith and their identity as the people of God.
-Les dijo: “asegúrense de amar al Señor su Dios”.
-He told them: “make sure you love the Lord your God.”
-Había un riesgo latente para el pueblo: mezclarse con los pueblos paganos que vivían al rededor de ellos.
-There was a latent risk for the people: mixing with the pagan peoples who lived around them.
-Si ellos se mezclaban con los demás pueblo uniéndose en matrimonio, lo más seguro es que terminarían mezclando su fe en el Dios eterno con las creencias idolátricas de esos pueblos. Y en efecto, eso fue lo que ocurrió.
-If they mixed with the other people by joining in marriage, it is most likely that they would end up mixing their faith in the eternal God with the idolatrous beliefs of those peoples. And indeed, that was what happened.
-Tenemos la responsabilidad de mantener nuestra identidad como pueblo de Dios ante el riesgo latente de las influencias externas.
-We have the responsibility to maintain our identity as the people of God in the face of the latent risk of external influences.
15 No amen al mundo ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguien ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él.
16 Porque todo lo que hay en el mundo, la pasión de la carne, la pasión de los ojos, y la arrogancia de la vida, no proviene del Padre, sino del mundo.
17 El mundo pasa, y también sus pasiones, pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre.
15 Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.
16 For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.
17 The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.
-Un aspecto importante en nuestra experiencia cristiana es mantener nuestra fe sin mezclas y sincera adoración a Dios.
-An important aspect of our christian experience is to keep our faith unmixed and sincere and sincere worship of God.

-El libro termina con un llamado al pueblo de parte de Josué. Un llamado a elegir entre la adoración a los dioses paganos y la adoración al Dios verdadero.
-The book ends with a call to the people from Joshua. A call to choose between worshiping pagan gods and worshiping the true God.
14 Ahora, pues, temed a Jehová, y servidle con integridad y en verdad; y quitad de entre vosotros los dioses a los cuales sirvieron vuestros padres al otro lado del río, y en Egipto; y servid a Jehová.
15 Y si mal os parece servir a Jehová, escogeos hoy a quién sirváis; si a los dioses a quienes sirvieron vuestros padres, cuando estuvieron al otro lado del río, o a los dioses de los amorreos en cuya tierra habitáis; pero yo y mi casa serviremos a Jehová.
14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
-Aparentemente la ultima frase es una muestra de una gran determinación, y en efecto lo es, en el sentido de que debemos estar determinados a servir a Dios junto con nuestra familia.
-Apparently the last phrase is a sign of great determination, and indeed it is, in the sense that we must be determined to serve God together with our family.
-Pero estas palabras muestran lo que parece era la condición en la que estaba el pueblo: tenían una mezcla en su adoración.
-But these words show what seems to have been the condition in which the people were: they had a mixture in their worship.
23 «Ahora pues», les dijo Josué, «quiten los dioses extranjeros que están en medio de ustedes, e inclinen su corazón al Señor, Dios de Israel».
23 “Now then,” said Joshua, “throw away the foreign gods that are among you and yield your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
-Esto nos debe llamar la atención a pensar en que en nuestra fe no debe haber otra alternativa, no debemos considerar otro objeto de nuestra fe y adoración.
-This should call our attention to think that in our faith there must be no other alternative, we must not consider another object of our faith and worship.
-No, no tenemos otra alternativa, esa debe ser nuestra determinación: “Al Señor nuestro Dios adoraremos, y sólo a él serviremos”.
-No, we have no other alternative, that must be our determination: “We will worship the Lord our God, and him only will we serve.”
6 para nosotros, sin embargo, sólo hay un Dios, el Padre, del cual proceden todas las cosas, y nosotros somos para él; y un Señor, Jesucristo, por medio del cual son todas las cosas, y nosotros por medio de él.
6 yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
-Otro aspecto importante en nuestra victoria cristiana es tener bien claro a quién servimos y a quién adoramos; a quién le dedicamos nuestra vida y nuestro tiempo.
-Another important aspect of our christian victory is to be very clear about who we serve and who we worship; to whom we dedicate our life and our time.
