Efesios 4:17–24 (RVR60)

17 Esto, pues, digo y requiero en el Señor: que ya no andéis como los otros gentiles, que andan en la vanidad de su mente,

18 teniendo el entendimiento entenebrecido, ajenos de la vida de Dios por la ignorancia que en ellos hay, por la dureza de su corazón;

19 los cuales, después que perdieron toda sensibilidad, se entregaron a la lascivia para cometer con avidez toda clase de impureza.

20 Mas vosotros no habéis aprendido así a Cristo,

21 si en verdad le habéis oído, y habéis sido por él enseñados, conforme a la verdad que está en Jesús.

22 En cuanto a la pasada manera de vivir, despojaos del viejo hombre, que está viciado conforme a los deseos engañosos,

23 y renovaos en el espíritu de vuestra mente,

17 This I say, therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you should no longer walk as the rest of the Gentiles walk, in the futility of their mind,

18 having their understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;

19 who, being past feeling, have given themselves over to lewdness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

20 But you have not so learned Christ,

21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

22 that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts,

23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

Repaso | Review

-Crecimiento espiritual es permitir la acción del Espíritu Santo sobre nuestra vida, y la disminución de la influencia de nuestra naturaleza carnal.

-Spiritual growth is allowing the action of the Holy Spirit in our life, and the decrease of the influence of our carnal nature.

-Crecer espiritualmente se trata de actuar según la voluntad de Dios, anteponiéndola a la nuestra.

-Growing spiritually is about acting according to God's will, putting it before our own.

-Crecer espiritualmente es permitir el control del Espíritu Santo sobre nuestras decisiones y acciones.

-Growing spiritually is allowing the Holy Spirit to control our decisions and actions.

-La medida a la que debemos llegar en nuestro crecimiento es la plenitud de Cristo. Esta plenitud se refiere a Su carácter.

-The measure that we must reach in our growth is the fullness of Christ. This fullness refers to His character.

-Para crecer espiritualmente hay que permanecer unidos a Cristo. Y la manera de permanecer es obedeciendo la palabra de Dios.

-To grow spiritually, we must remain united to Christ. And the way to remain is by obeying the word of God.

Acciones pasadas | Past actions

-Lo primero que vamos a identificar son las acciones que caracterizan a una persona que no tiene la vida de Dios:

-The first thing we are going to identify are the actions that characterize a person who does not have the life of God:

1. Vanidad de su mente | Vanity of the mind

-La palabra “vanidad” significa “inutilidad como consecuencia de no tener un propósito, sin resultados”, con respecto a las cosas de Dios.

-The word “vanity” means “uselessness as a consequence of not having a purpose, without results,” with respect to the things of God.

2. Entendimiento entenebrecido | Darkened understanding

-En esta condición, la mente no percibe las cosas de Dios. Por causa de la incredulidad no conocen acerca de la salvación y del nueva vida en Dios.

-In this condition, the mind does not perceive the things of God. Because of unbelief, they do not know about salvation and the new life in God.

3. Insensibilidad | Insensitivity

-Se ha perdido toda conciencia moral.

-All moral conscience has been lost.

4. Viciados al pecado | Addicted to sin

-La palabra “viciado” significa “corrompido”. Desviado de lo que se considera moral, correcto, apropiado o bueno.

-The word “addicted” means “corrupted.” Deviated from what is considered moral, correct, appropriate or good.

3 En otro tiempo nosotros también éramos necios y desobedientes. Fuimos engañados y nos convertimos en esclavos de toda clase de pasiones y placeres. Nuestra vida estaba llena de maldad y envidia, y nos odiábamos unos a otros.

3 Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient. We were misled and became slaves to many lusts and pleasures. Our lives were full of evil and envy, and we hated each other.

5 he saved us, not because of the righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He washed away our sins, giving us a new birth and new life through the Holy Spirit.

Acciones nuevas | New actions

-Lo segundo que vamos a enfatizar son las acciones que debemos realizar quienes hemos recibido la vida de Dios. Estas acciones nos llevan a un crecimiento espiritual. Un desarrollo de nuestra relación con Dios:

-The second thing we are going to emphasize are the actions that we must carry out, those of us who have received the life of God. These actions lead us to spiritual growth. A development of our relationship with God:

1. Abandonar la antigua forma de vida | Abandon the old way of life

-Pablo usa la metáfora del vestido. Al decir, “despójense” sugiere la idea de “rechazar” y “desechar” las formas que teníamos cuando estábamos muertos en nuestros pecados.

-Paul uses the metaphor of clothing. By saying, “put off” he suggests the idea of ​​“rejecting” and “discarding” the ways we had when we were dead in our sins.

-“Despojarse” es cortar con las costumbres o hábitos que provienen de la vieja naturaleza.

-“Putting off” is cutting off the customs or habits that come from the old nature.

2. Renovarse en el espíritu de la mente | Renewing the spirit of the mind

-Renovar no es solo un cambio en el modo de pensar, sino un cambio de los pensamientos.

-Renewal is not just a change in the way of thinking, but a change in thoughts.

-“Paul did not order them to change their minds since it was the same with the same structure, the same emotions and the same memory. What had to change was the government of their mind.”

2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.

3. Adoptar un nuevo orden de vida | Adopting a new order of life

-Esta acción es opuesta a la primera. El despojarse del viejo hombre y vestirse del nuevo hombre es el acto decisivo y terminante de cambio espiritual. (Comentario bı́blico mundo hispano: Efesios).

-This action is the opposite of the first. Putting off the old man and putting on the new man is the decisive and definitive act of spiritual change.

10 Porque somos hechura de Dios, creados en Cristo Jesús para buenas obras, las cuales Dios dispuso de antemano a fin de que las pongamos en práctica.

Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)

10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

La importancia de la santidad | The importance of the holiness

-Las dos características que acompañan al creyente renovado por la regeneración son: la justicia y la santidad.

-The two characteristics that accompany the believer renewed by regeneration are: justice and holiness.

-La santidad es la condición en la que Dios nos ha dado, gracias a la obra de Cristo Jesús.

-Holiness is the condition in which God has placed us, thanks to the work of Christ Jesus.

-Para crecer espiritualmente, debemos mantenernos totalmente apartados del pecado y mantener la pureza moral y espiritual que hemos recibido de parte de Dios.

-To grow spiritually, we must keep ourselves totally separate from sin and maintain the moral and spiritual purity that we have received from God.

1 Amados míos, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, y perfeccionémonos en la santidad y en el temor de Dios.

1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

26 “Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 nor give place to the devil.

28 Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need.

29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice.
