The Spirit's Witness: Our Assurance in Christ
The Spirit's Witness: Our Assurance in Christ
The witness of the Spirit is a profound aspect of the Christian faith, affirming our identity as children of God and reassuring us in the christian life.
I am grateful the Bible teaches so much on this, for without it, the church would ignore it completely, and make salvation about head knowledge alone. Without the Spirit we would be saying all the right stuff without the inward assurance of those realities.
You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.
Do you have the Spirit of God living in you? No one can have the Spirit of God living in them without knowing it.
Understanding and having the witness of the Spirit empowers us to live with more confidence in our faith and causes us to rely on his divine assurance in all our testings and trials.
and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not put to shame, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
It Passeth knowledge that dear love of thine, my Savior Jesus, yet this soul of mine, would of thy love in all its breadth and length, its height and depth, its everlasting strength know more and more
and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
The religion of a filled head but an empty heart.
But as it is written:“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard,Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.”
But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit. For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
The Holy Spirit bears witness to our hearts regarding our salvation, encouraging believers to trust in Christ assured by His inner assurance and leading.
The Holy Spirit points us to Christ, affirming His work in our lives and reconciling us with God, reassuring of Christs finished work. His presence in our lives confirms to us we serve a risen Savior whose seated at the right Hand of the Father.
He lives, He lives, Christ Jesus lives today! He walks with me and talks with me along lifes narrow way. He lives, He lives, salvation to impart! You ask me how I know He lives? He lives within my heart.
The Holy Spirit testifies to our identity in Christ, giving us confidence and assurance as we address our doubts. Face your doubts, it could be you do not yet know the Lord. If you don’t then seek Him. If you do know Him, facing your doubts will only make you stronger.
1. Spirit's Assurance of Sonship
1. Spirit's Assurance of Sonship
The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him.
The Holy Spirit intercedes at a personal level, confirming our identity as God’s children. The Spirit’s internal witness grants assurance of salvation, emphasizing our inheritance as co-heirs with Christ. This sense of belonging empowers believers to persevere through sufferings, knowing we are part of God’s family.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
2. Spirit-Given Freedom and Intimacy
2. Spirit-Given Freedom and Intimacy
And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.
The Spirit prompts us to cry, 'Abba, Father.' This declaration signifies a deep relationship with God, marked by intimacy and freedom. The Spirit within us authenticates our status not as slaves but as heirs with Christ.
Why is the Holy Spirit neglected in many of our churches today? Its because it requires experience. If we have an unsaved man behind the pulpit he cannot speak of what he does not know. Or if we have someone who hasn’t experienced the things of the Spirit, how can he speak of them?
