Christ came as the light of the world. In Christ, Christians have been transformed by Christ's blood and word into children of light in the kingdom of light. If we are children of light, then we need to live like the source of that light, Christ.
As the moon goes through its phases, one sees the darkness of the new moon give way to the light of the full moon. As evidenced by creation and revealed by our Creator, light casts out darkness.
When the light of the Gospel reached our hearts, the darkness of sin was cast out. Our lives, passions, and speech should all be different. We have been transformed by the light of Christ, and our presence should bring light into this world of darkness.
The Source of Light
The Creation testifies to the fact that light is from God (Genesis 1:1-5).
Our Creator is light (1 John 1:5). His creation in the beginning and recreation by water and the spirit reflects the Creator.
The Cause of the light is Christ Himself as evidenced in John 1:1-12. In that text is the beginning (John 1:1-2), the bearing of the light (John 1:3-8), and our becoming light in Christ (John 1:9-13).
The light of Christ Casts out the darkness (John 3:18-21; 8:12).
The Transformation of Light
Transformed by Christ (Ephesians 5:8-14).
Transformed by Christ’s blood (Ephesians 2:1-13).
Transformed by Christ’s Word (John 12:44-48; Acts 26:12-18).
Transferred into Christ’s kingdom (1 Peter 2:9).
Conclusion
Jesus is the light of the world (John 8:12).
Through Him we reflect His light into the world (Matthew 5:14-16; Ephesians 5:8-14).
