Luke 22:39 CSB
He went out and made his way as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.

INTRO—

This Easter…I have worked alongside our pastoral staff to emphasize where Jesus speaks during Passion Week. To see…or hear…Jesus clearly as we consider all that takes place in his accomplishment of our salvation. [today, we look to the time from the garden…to the empty tomb…to a Galilean mountain!…to hear Jesus.]
AND…we do well to remember, follow the words of Paul...
1 Corinthians 11:1 CSB
Imitate me, as I also imitate Christ.

The Garden: Jesus Prays [Luke 22.39-46]

Luke 22:41–44 CSB
41 Then he withdrew from them about a stone’s throw, knelt down, and began to pray, 42 “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me—nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 Then an angel from heaven appeared to him, strengthening him. 44 Being in anguish, he prayed more fervently, and his sweat became like drops of blood falling to the ground.
The significance of the events about to happen…intensifies! So...
Jesus Prays…fully trusting in the Father in this moment… “not my will, but yours, be done.”
The anguish causes a rare physical response in which the capillaries near the sweat glands burst and blood mixes with sweat and comes through Jesus’ pores. Remember...
Jesus Prays.

The Trials: Jesus Clarifies [John 18.28-38]

John 18:33–38 CSB
33 Then Pilate went back into the headquarters, summoned Jesus, and said to him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” 34 Jesus answered, “Are you asking this on your own, or have others told you about me?” 35 “I’m not a Jew, am I?” Pilate replied. “Your own nation and the chief priests handed you over to me. What have you done?” 36 “My kingdom is not of this world,” said Jesus. “If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would fight, so that I wouldn’t be handed over to the Jews. But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.” 37 “You are a king then?” Pilate asked. “You say that I’m a king,” Jesus replied. “I was born for this, and I have come into the world for this: to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” 38 “What is truth?” said Pilate. After he had said this, he went out to the Jews again and told them, “I find no grounds for charging him.
Jesus Clarifies...
Who is The King.
The Truth. [Hint: Jesus (John 14.6) and what he says]

The Crucifixion: Jesus Completes [Luke 23.32-34; John 19.25-27; John 19.28-30]

[The first two here as quick reminders…]
Heart of Redemption…Forgiveness.
Luke 23:32–34 CSB
32 Two others—criminals—were also led away to be executed with him. 33 When they arrived at the place called The Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals, one on the right and one on the left. 34 Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, because they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided his clothes and cast lots.
Heart of Compassion…Caring for Needs
John 19:25–27 CSB
25 Standing by the cross of Jesus were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple he loved standing there, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” 27 Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his home.
THE HEART of SACRIFICE…Completing the Atonement.
John 19:28–30 CSB
28 After this, when Jesus knew that everything was now finished that the Scripture might be fulfilled, he said, “I’m thirsty.” 29 A jar full of sour wine was sitting there; so they fixed a sponge full of sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it up to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished.” Then bowing his head, he gave up his spirit.
IT IS FINISHED! Jesus paid it all…ALL to him I owe!

The Resurrection: Jesus Saves [John 20.11-18]

John 20:14–18 CSB
14 Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know it was Jesus. 15 “Woman,” Jesus said to her, “why are you crying? Who is it that you’re seeking?” Supposing he was the gardener, she replied, “Sir, if you’ve carried him away, tell me where you’ve put him, and I will take him away.” 16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” Turning around, she said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!”—which means “Teacher.” 17 “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus told her, “since I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them that I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what he had said to her.
HE IS ALIVE!!! RESURRECTION!!
He is our REDEEMER! [Savior…Lord]

CONCL— The Galilean Mountain: Jesus Commissions [Matthew 28.16-20]

Matthew 28:18–20 CSB
18 Jesus came near and said to them, “All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe everything I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
THE King…Our Savior…Our Lord. HE has commissioned us into service.
LET’S GOOOOOOOOO!
John 20:16–18 CSB
16 Jesus said to her, “Mary.” Turning around, she said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!”—which means “Teacher.” 17 “Don’t cling to me,” Jesus told her, “since I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and tell them that I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.” 18 Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord!” And she told them what he had said to her.
