20 Y Josué erigió en Gilgal las doce piedras que habían traído del Jordán.

21 Y habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Cuando mañana preguntaren vuestros hijos a sus padres, y dijeren: ¿Qué significan estas piedras?

22 declararéis a vuestros hijos, diciendo: Israel pasó en seco por este Jordán.

23 Porque Jehová vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros, hasta que habíais pasado, a la manera que Jehová vuestro Dios lo había hecho en el Mar Rojo, el cual secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos;

24 para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan que la mano de Jehová es poderosa; para que temáis a Jehová vuestro Dios todos los días.

20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal.

21 Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: “When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, ‘What are these stones?’

22 then you shall let your children know, saying, ‘Israel crossed over this Jordan on dry land’;

23 for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over,

24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

Repaso | Review

-El propósito de Dios está definido; así que, debemos permitir que se cumpla en nosotros, para que Dios no lo cumplirá en otros.

-God's purpose is defined; therefore, we must allow it to be fulfilled in us, so that God will not fulfill it in others.

-Cuatro factores por los que Israel entró a la tierra prometida: La promesa de parte de Dios, la presencia de Dios, la ley de Dios y la dirección de Dios.

-Four factors by which Israel entered the promised land: The promise from God, the presence of God, the law of God and the direction of God.

-La actitud para ver el cumplimiento de las promesas de Dios es la valentía.

-The attitude to see the fulfillment of God's promises is courage.

-La salvación no es algo que podamos obtener por nuestro esfuerzo, pero sí es algo que debemos mantener con valentía.

-Salvation is not something that we can obtain by our own effort, but it is something that we must maintain with courage.

La fe de Rahab | Rahab’s faith

-En el capítulo 2 de Josué encontramos una demostración de lo que sucede cuando alguien se acoge a la gracia de Dios por medio de la fe.

-In chapter 2 of Joshua we find a demonstration of what happens when someone embraces God's grace through faith.

-Rahab era una mujer ramera, que creyó en el plan de Dios. Esta es la demostración que el amor de Dios se extiende a toda persona.

-Rahab was a harlot who believed in God's plan. This is the demonstration that God's love extends to every person.

-Rahab hizo lo que toda la ciudad de Jericó debió haber hecho, buscar la misericordia de Dios.

-Rahab did what the entire city of Jericho should have done, seek God's mercy.

-La fe de Rahab hizo que su familia fuera alcanzada por la misericordia de Dios.

-Rahab's faith made her family be reached by God's mercy.

-La señal que debía poner en “su casa” fue una cuerda de color rojo, la cual nos habla de la salvación por medio del sacrificio de Cristo Jesús.

-The sign she was to put on "her house" was a red rope, which tells us about salvation through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

-La fe de Rahab hizo que fuera incluida en el pueblo de Dios. Y no solo eso, sino que también fue incluida en la línea genealógica del Mesías.

-Rahab's faith made her be included in God's people. And not only that, but she was also included in the genealogical line of the Messiah.

-Salmón se casó con Rahab y fueron tatarabuelos del rey David.

-Salmon married Rahab and they were great-great-grandparents of King David.

-Mateo menciona a Rahab en la línea real de Jesús.

-Matthew mentions Rahab in the royal line of Jesus.

-La fe es el medio que nos permite ser alcanzados por la gracia restauradora de Dios y disfrutar de Sus promesas.

-Faith is the means by which we are reached by God’s restoring grace and enjoy His promises.

31 Fue por la fe que Rahab, la prostituta, no fue destruida junto con los habitantes de su ciudad que se negaron a obedecer a Dios. Pues ella había recibido en paz a los espías.

31 It was by faith that Rahab the prostitute was not destroyed with the people in her city who refused to obey God. For she had given a friendly welcome to the spies.

La santificación del pueblo | The sanctification of the people

-En el capítulo 3 encontramos la importante lección de la purificación.

-In chapter 3 we find the important lesson of purification.

-El pueblo debía ir por un camino que no conocían, por lo tanto, sería el arca del pacto (símbolo de la presencia de Dios) que les daría dirección.

-The people had to go by a path they did not know, therefore, it would be the ark of the covenant (symbol of the presence of God) that would give them direction.

-Era muy importante que el pueblo tuviera confianza para seguir las estrategias de Dios.

-It was very important that the people had confidence to follow God's strategies.

-Josué les dio dos instrucciones que ellos debían seguir puntualmente:

-Joshua gave them two instructions that they had to follow punctually:

Josué les dijo: “Santifíquense, porque el Señor hará maravillas entre ustedes” (v. 5). Dios estaría en medio de ellos.

Joshua told them: “Sanctify yourselves, because the Lord will do wonders among you” (v. 5). God would be in their midst.

Josué también les dijo: estén atentos a los sacerdotes, porque ellos llevan el arca del pacto (v. 13-16).

Joshua also told them: pay attention to the priests, because they carry the ark of the covenant (v. 13-16).

-Si queremos contar con la presencia y la dirección de Dios, debemos mantener nuestra vida en pureza moral y espiritual.

-If we want to count on the presence and direction of God, we must keep our lives in moral and spiritual purity.

16 ¿Y qué acuerdo puede haber entre el templo de Dios y los ídolos? ¡Ustedes son el templo del Dios viviente! Ya Dios lo ha dicho: «Habitaré y andaré entre ellos, y yo seré su Dios y ellos serán mi pueblo.»

1 Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness out of reverence for God.

El poder del testimonio | The power of testimony

-En el capítulo 4 vemos la importancia que tiene el testimonio de las obras de Dios.

-In chapter 4 we see the importance of the testimony of God's works.

-Los líderes de las tribus debían levantar un monumento de piedras, el cual serviría de testimonio para que las generaciones siguientes supieran lo que Dios había hecho entre ellos.

-The leaders of the tribes had to raise a monument of stones, which would serve as a testimony so that the following generations would know what God had done among them.

-Un hecho relevante es que hubo dos tribus y parte de otra (Ruben, Gad y Manasés) que ya habían elegido su tierra a este lado del Jordán, pero fueron a respaldar a sus hermanos en la conquista.

-A relevant fact is that there were two tribes and part of another (Reuben, Gad and Manasseh) that had already chosen their land on this side of the Jordan, but they went to support their brothers in the conquest.

-La victoria cristiana requiere de apoyo fraterno. La Biblia dice: “no mirando cada uno por lo suyo propio, sino también por lo de los otros” (Fil. 2.4).

-Christian victory requires fraternal support. The Bible says: "not looking to yor own interests but each of you to the interests of others" (Phil. 2.4).

-Una vez el pueblo cruzó el Jordán, las aguas se volvieron a su cause. Porque hay cosas que Dios hace sólo en favor de Su pueblo y para llevar a cabo Sus propósitos.

-Once the people crossed the Jordan, the waters returned to their course. Because there are things that God does only in favor of His people and to carry out His purposes.

-Es por eso que hay que valorar la bendición de Dios.

-That is why we must value God's blessing.

-El paso del Jordán es una figura del nuestra muerte con Cristo (Ro. 6:3-4).

-The passage of the Jordan is a figure of our death with Christ (Ro. 6:3-4).

-El cruce milagroso del río Jordán también serviría para un triple testimonio:

-The miraculous crossing of the Jordan River would also serve as a triple testimony:

Testimonio para sus hijos

Testimony for their children

Testimonio para que el pueblo temiera a Dios

Testimony so that the people would fear God

Testimonio para que los otros pueblos conocieran el poder de Dios

Testimony so that the other peoples would know the power of Gos

-Si le creemos a Dios y seguimos fielmente sus mandamientos, El hará grandes cosas entre nosotros.

-If we believe God and faithfully follow his commandments, He will do great things among us.

-Ciertamente, Dios está con nosotros, y está bendiciéndonos con sus obras.

-Certainly, God is with us, and He is blessing us with His works.

-Pero, ¿para qué quiere Dios hacer maravillas entre nosotros? Para que nuestra vida sea un testimonio de Su poder.

-But, why does God want to do wonders among us? So that our life may be a testimony of His power.

¿Estamos dando testimonio del poder de Dios? ¿Qué clase de testimonio estamos dejando con la manera en que seguimos a Cristo?

Are we bearing witness to the power of God? What kind of testimony are we leaving by the way we follow Christ?
